Ministry of Industry And Trade
These two ministries - originating from the Ministry of Economics (in 1939), merged in 1949 and re-divided in 1957 - experienced another merger attempt in 1971 under the title of Ministry of Industry and Trade. However, during this merger, Department of Foreign Trade was separated from the Ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations was established. Duties of the Ministry of Trade and Industry were limited to the areas of industry and domestic trade. Until 1985, duties and responsibilities of the Ministry have undergone several changes. Finally, the law on the Organization and Duties of the Ministry of Industry and Trade came into force on January 18, 1985. The Law (8.1.1985/3143) was published in the Official Gazette No. 18639 dated 18.01.1985, the said Decree Laws were abolished, and the Law on the Organization and Duties of the Ministry, as is today, entered into force.
